London's housing affordability is worsening. Wages have failed to keep pace with the spiralling housing prices. Solutions for those low to middle earners are yet to be found and government schemes aren't creating any solutions. Housing schemes need to conform to its different users and create in house opportunities for its inhabitants.

Situated five minutes from the newly emerged olympic grounds, the stratford highstreet popped up out to much London familiarity. Sitting in an community much decided, an uncommon adaptable housing complex sits to provide settlement, hostel, business, a micro-community.

Elemental _ Alejandro Aravena devised a solution to Chile's slums replacements. By providing 'Half a House' with basic amenities, the community could afford to live and

build their second half of the house over the coming years. Adapting this theory to Stratford's Highstreet, if each apartment had this option what would happen? How many more rooms could be built by its inhabitants? Void & extensions led to a closed facade, blending with the street environment, with an adaptable opposite side for an ever changing built community.

The project resulted in a ground floor shop space with a multi-level apartment block, each floor in a different status with option for adapting onto a large back terrace. Each apartment could be sub devised or expanded into one bedrooms with sub-let rooms, three or four bedroom home with artist studios, large single professional homes all interchangeable, making the most of the space provided and an equal amount of opportunities.
